Policy statement
EBITPOINT LTD, which operates ebitpoint, does not allow its services to be used to launder money, finance terrorism, commit fraud, or evade sanctions. This policy explains the controls we use to keep the platform safe and what we expect from customers.
It applies to every ebitpoint account and to every Buy, Sell, Swap, deposit, and withdrawal made through ebitpoint.
Legal framework
ebitpoint serves customers in Ghana and Nigeria. Our approach takes account of the laws that apply in those countries and of international standards for virtual asset businesses, including:
- Ghana's Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2020 (Act 1044) and related guidance from the Financial Intelligence Centre and the Bank of Ghana.
- Nigeria's Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
- The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Recommendations and its guidance on virtual assets and virtual asset service providers.
Customer due diligence
When you open an account
- You register with your legal first and last name as they appear on your ID, a working email address, and a mobile number.
- New accounts are created only after you confirm your mobile number with an SMS code, and a number already confirmed on another account cannot be used to open a new one.
- Disposable email addresses are not accepted.
- Our services are for customers who live in Ghana or Nigeria, and you must choose one of these as your country when you register. Buying is currently available for Ghana accounts only.
Identity verification
To verify your identity, you upload a clear photo of a valid government-issued ID and a selfie of you holding the same ID. Every submission is reviewed by a member of our verification team, who approves or rejects it. Only one submission can be under review at a time, and you can submit again if a submission is rejected. The identity verification guide explains what the form asks for.
Further checks
We may ask for more information at any time, for example about the source of funds, the purpose of a transaction, or who controls an account. Where our step-up check for large withdrawals is switched on, you may also be asked to complete a live face check that is compared with your verification selfie.
Verification tiers and limits
Accounts are either unverified or verified. For Buy orders, Sell orders paid from your ebitpoint balance, and withdrawals, limits are measured in US dollar value and apply per transaction and per calendar day. Limits are set by ebitpoint and may change. Swap has its own minimum and maximum amounts. If an amount is above your limit, it is refused with a message telling you which limit applies.
| Activity | Unverified account | Verified account |
|---|---|---|
| Buy crypto (Ghana accounts) | Available with lower limits | Available with higher limits |
| Sell from your ebitpoint balance | Available with lower limits | Available with higher limits |
| Send crypto from your ebitpoint balance to an external wallet | Not available | Available within limits |
Withdrawal safeguards
- Withdrawals can only be sent to addresses saved in your address book. Adding or removing an address requires your password and triggers a notification.
- A newly saved address can only be used after a waiting period, which is shorter for verified accounts that use two-factor authentication or a passkey.
- The requested amount is reserved from your balance and recorded in our ledger before anything is sent.
- Every withdrawal from your ebitpoint balance is prepared and reviewed by our team before it is sent, and each step is recorded in an audit trail.
Monitoring and account controls
We alert our team when you place a Buy order, request a withdrawal, or submit an over-the-counter request, and when a Sell order is funded. We also run automated checks that compare account balances with our ledger and alert staff to anything that does not match.
A payment reference can only be attached to one Buy order for the same ebitpoint payment account, unless that order was cancelled. We also apply rate limits to sensitive actions.
When we need to, we can restrict an account. Restrictions can apply to signing in, buying, selling, and swapping, withdrawals, or profile changes, and you are notified when a restriction is applied or removed.
Prohibited activity
When using ebitpoint, you must not:
- Deposit, move, or cash out money or crypto that comes from crime.
- Finance terrorism or any person or organisation subject to sanctions.
- Let anyone else use your account. Your account is for your own use.
- Open or run more than one account, or use another person's identity or documents.
- Split transactions to avoid limits or checks.
- Commit or help with fraud, scams, or fake payment references.
- Buy or sell for another person, a business, or any other third party without the appropriate authority and without telling us first.
What we may do
To meet our obligations and protect customers, ebitpoint may:
- Refuse to open an account or to carry out a transaction.
- Ask for identification, supporting documents, or an explanation of a transaction before continuing.
- Delay, pause, or cancel an order or withdrawal while we review it.
- Restrict or close an account, and hold funds where the law requires or allows it.
- Share information with competent authorities when the law requires it. In some cases the law may stop us from telling you that we have done so.
Your obligations
- Give accurate, current information and keep it up to date.
- Use your own Mobile Money or bank account for payments and payouts.
- Answer our requests for information promptly and honestly.
- Keep your account secure and tell us straight away if you suspect someone else has used it.
Record keeping
We keep records of verification decisions, transactions, and staff actions on customer accounts. If your account is deleted, we keep our financial ledger and staff audit records, which cannot be edited or deleted. How we handle personal information is described in the Privacy notice and the GDPR data protection notice.
Reporting a concern
If you think an account or transaction on ebitpoint is linked to fraud or other crime, or someone has asked you to use your account on their behalf, email info@ebitpoint.com or contact Support. Do not share your password, one-time codes, or private keys with anyone, including people who say they work for ebitpoint.
Updates to this policy
We review this policy as our services, risks, and legal obligations change. The current version and its update date are always shown on this page.
